'Legal electricity, gas connections for Dara Adamkhel, FR Kohat and Peshawar to be ensured’

PESHAWAR: Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Thursday said that five union councils of Koh-e-Daman on the border of Dara Adam Khel, FR Kohat and Peshawar will be specially treated and provided natural gas on exceptional basis.
He stated this while talking to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Public Health Engineering and Information, Shah Farman who called him at his chamber at the Parliament House on Thursday.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also assured that those having been provided gas connections on irregular basis will be provided gas meters on exceptional basis by-passing the turn out procedure.
Shah Farman briefed Federal Minister for Petroleum about the problems faced by people of his constituency particularly the scarcity of energy and power like gas and electricity. Shah Farman pointed out that the area was so hard hit by militancy and terrorism that it had virtually become a no go area for the people while on the other hand the largest number of suicide and targeted attacks in the province took place there due to which it had been included into FATA while making surveys for the rehabilitation. - INP

Govt to provide natural gas to militancy hit areas: Abbasi

ISLAMABAD/FP: Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi here Thursday assured the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government that the five union councils of Koh-e-Daman on the border of Dara Adam Khiel, FR Kohat and Peshawar will be specially treated and natural gas will be provided on exceptional basis. The minister said this while talking with the KP provincial Minister for Public Health Engineering, Information and PR Shah Farman who called on him at his chamber at the parliament house. He also assured that those having been provided gas connections on irregular basis will be provided gas meters on exceptional basis by-passing the turn out procedure. He pointed out that the area was so hard hit by militancy and terrorism that it had virtually become a no go area for the people while on the other hand the largest number of suicide and targeted attacks in the province took place there due to which it had been included in to FATA which making surveys for the rehabilitation.
On the other hand the area is the closed of the lower districts of KP to the sources of gas in Kohat and Karak due to which and also the sense of deprivation among the people of the area when the SNGPL authorities were lying a gas pipeline for Tarnab which had to pass through this area, the residents of the area resorted to protest demonstration, roads blockades and thus created a lot of law and order situation even in the provincial capital. It was, the KP Minister pointed out, there and then that the government, the SNGPL authorities and local administration entered into a written agreement copy of which was shown to the Federal Minister, that the people of the area will be provided gas from the said pipeline on priority basis.
The Federal Minister said that though PM has stopped giving funds to such development like giving gas supply but in this case he will ask the OGRA to make some special arrangement for gas supply to the said area.
Shah Farman also invited the attention of the Federal Minister towards the gas connections provided by the SNGPL authorities during the previous government and thus the said families have no gas meters in their house now. He said that each of these families had then properly deposited Rs.20,000/- for each connection. On this, Khaqan Abbasi assured that these people will be provided gas meters on priority basis.
With regard to inflated bills of electricity, Shah Farman asked the Federal Minister to direct WAPDA/PESCO authorities to first stop the supply of illegal electricity connections to big thieves like factory owners and transferring such burden to the domestic consumers.

Kohat region to have industrial estate: Gov

PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer Shaukatullah, while launching a natural gas project, costing Rs 76.468 million, at Darra Adam Khail in FR Kohat on Saturday declared to establish an industrial estate in the area. 
The 17-kilometer long main pipelane laying project for supply of natural gas on completion within next couple of months will offer 50 connections for commercial purposes besides providing 3500 domestic connections to a population of about 45,000 of the area.  He also announced to expedite efforts for the establishment of a grid station, besides exploring possibility for launching socio-economic uplift project in the area which also included up-gradation of a historic high school at Zarghunkhel; working since pre-partition era.
The Governor also conveyed good wishes on behalf of the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari through the tribal elders of Kohat to all the tribal people of Frontier Regions and the tribal agencies and said that, “before coming to launch this first project of its nature in FATA, he had met him to discuss development programmes meant for FATA in future. Initiation of gas supply project coupled with commitment for establishment of an industrial estate in the area, he added, will lead to launch of more projects of similar nature in rest of FATA in a gradual way, he remarked.
Responding to the demands put forward by a tribal elder, Haji Noor Zaman Afridi, the Governor further stated that the FATA Development Authority has already completed feasibility study with regard to establishment of the Industrial Estate and funds will be allocated for this purpose under the ensuing Annual Development Programme. 
Similarly, he added, cost of the land acquired for establishment of FATA University has already been disbursed and simultaneously efforts are already underway to launch the University in a temporary building for which there is also the need that the tribal elders should cooperate with the respective authorities.
Talking on another point, the Governor also declared the approval for establishment of a D-Type Hospital at Darra Adam Khel and hinted to ensure allocation of sufficient funds during the next financial year. 
He also took cognizance of the requests of elders from adjacent villages of Khyber Agency for provision of natural gas and desired that their demands should also be fulfilled. 
About the lack of drinking water facilities in Torchappar, Jawaki and Bosti Khel the Governor advised the concerned authorities to explore possibilities for launching solar energy based water supply schemes and resolve the grievances of the respective people. 
Earlier, the Governor flanked by General Manager, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines, Haroon Khan, and the tribal elders formally launched the pipeline laying projects.
On arrival at the venue of the ceremony, the Governor was warmly welcomed by the tribal elders and presented traditional gifts including a sheep.

Bettani tribe fined for violating ban

LAKKI MARWAT: The political administration of frontier region Lakki Marwat imposed heavy fine on three clans of Bettanni tribe for violating ban on poppy cultivation, said an official source on Wednesday. The source said that the tribesmen had ignored the clear cut orders of political authorities regarding ban on poppy cultivation in the tribal region, forcing the administration to destroy crops on a vast tract of land at its own and launch a crackdown on growers in the recent days. "As many as 36 tribesmen hailing from different clans were arrested and sent to jail under FCR during a special offensive against poppy cultivators", he maintained. The source told that the elders held a Jirga with assistant political agent Muhammad Fayyaz Khan Sherpao and assured him that the tribesmen would not cultivate the banned poppy crop in future. Malik Qader Khan, Malik Zaitullah, Malik Aezer Khan and Malik Thal Khan and other elders represented the tribesmen of their respective clans while political tehsildar Bakhtiar was also present on the occasion. "After a jirga with elders the administration decided to impose a fine of Rs 800000 to Shadikhel clan, Rs 600000 on Tarukhel clan and Rs 200000 on Wargaray clan", he told. He added that the administration also warned that a fine of Rs 50,00,000 would be imposed on the tribe if it was found involved in the malpractice of growing poppy crops in future.

JI plans to stage protest

F.P Report LAKKI MARWAT: The district chapter of Jamat-e-Islami held a meeting in Naurang Town on Tuesday to chalk out a plan for agitation against the arrest of JI's frontier region Lakki Marwat chief Maulana Zahidullah Bettanni. District ameer Malik Mir Shah presided over the meeting which was attended among others by secretary general Sabz Ali Naveed, deputy ameer Sher Ghulam, Al-khidmat foundation president Abdul Ghaffar Faryadi and Shabaab-e-Milli president Malik Jehan Zeb Hasan. The JI leaders said on the occasion that Maulana Zahidullah Bettanni was arrested under section of 40 FCR allegedly for leveling charges of corruption against political administration of FR Lakki. Expressing concern over the failure of talks with administration for securing release of arrested leader they decided that the Jamat would hold a protest demonstration in Tajori on April 28 against the arrest of Zahidullah Bettanni. Activists of Lakki Marwat, FR Lakki and Bannu chapters of JI will participate in the protest demonstration", they maintained. Nine persons arrested in police raid: Police claimed to have arrested nine persons including two dreaded outlaws during a raid on a hotel in Tajazai, said a police official on Tuesday. The official said that police were informed that anti-social element and wanted criminals were busy in gambling practice in a hotel upon which a surprise raid was carried out by Ghaznikhel police. During the raid police arrested nine accused persons identified as Yaseen Wahab, Rab Nawaz, Irfanullah, Sharifullah, Zainul Abidin, Asmatullah, Mirza Ali, Javed and Sarfraz", he maintained, saying that two of the arrested persons identified as Zainul Abidin and Sharifullah were proclaimed absconders and they were wanted by police in different cases of heinous nature. He told that police also seized two AK 47 assault rifles, six pistols, 340 bullets, stake money worth Rs 22000 and an amount of Rs 5000 from them and registered a case under relevant section of law.
