PESHAWAR: Aman Ittehad and Tehreek-e- Huqooq Hazara (AITHH) in collaboration with Umar Asghar Khan Foundation here Wednesday held a consultative conference to know the public opinion regarding proposed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Plan (LGP).
The conference was participated by former Local Bodies representatives, lawyers, civil society members, labour leaders, women folk and representatives of AITHH including Rashida Dohad, Mariam Bibi,Dr. Sarfaraz, Mukhtar Baacha and Gul Rehman.
After thorough discussion it was concurred that Local Government System was indispensable for resolving the issues at grass roots level.
It was suggested that the system should also be implemented in FATA.
It was suggested that councillors in the system should be selected for a population of 1500 and all the stakeholders including women, youths and farmers while non-Muslims should be given proper representation.
It was suggested that election should be direct and on party basis.Participants recommended that allocation of funds should be made on an agreed formula and discretionary powers should be curtailed in this regard. - APP
