CM wants early completion of Lawari tunnel, Swat-Kalam road projects
PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that Lawari tunnel and Swat-Kalam road projects have a key role in providing communication facilities to the local dwellers, promotion of economy and tourism in these areas.
The provincial government will not let the lack of resources to hamper the early completion of these projects.
He expressed these views during a briefing given to him by the high ups of National Highway Authority (NHA) regarding the ongoing developmental projects of the federal public sector development programme (PSDP) in the province here on Thursday.
These projects include Lawari Tunnel, Jhalkhand-chilas road, Peshawar Northern by Pass, Khushal Ghar Bridge, Takhtbai flyover, Chamkani Interchange, Alpuri-Bisham road, Chakdara Bridge, Mansehra-Chilas road etc.
Chairman NHA Maroof Afzal and others briefed the Chief Minister about the progress so far made on these projects, position of funding and other related issues.

The Chief Minister directed the NHA authorities to expedite work on these projects and assured that the provincial government will extend all possible support and cooperation to the NHA for the early completion of the projects.
He urged upon the authorities to utilize all the funds released for these projects before the financial year close and to take necessary steps for the timely completion of the projects so that people could soon benefit from these projects.
The Chief Minister specially stressed on the early completion of the Lawari tunnel and Kalam road because people of the areas were facing difficulties. He directed the concerned authorities to fence the under construction Peshawar Northern By Pass in order to make it safe.
He expressed his dissatisfaction over the low quality of work on the service road of motorway M-1 and urged the NHA authorities to conduct an inquiry into the matter.
On this occasion it was suggested to the NHA authorities to work on an alternate road from Swabi to Malakand instead of constructing the proposed tunnel in the hills of Malakand as the alternate road is cost effective and it reduces the distance considerably.
It was told that the provincial government had already made the feasibility and PC-1 of the said alternate road.
Besides the high ups of NHA, the briefing was also attended by provincial minister for communication and works, Yousaf Ayub, Additional Chief Secretary Khalid Pervez, Secretary Planning & Development , Dr. Asad Ali and concerned quarters of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highway Authority. - APP
