Kabul, Swat and Khayali rivers in high floods

PESHAWAR: District administration has directed the locals to stay alert after river Swat, river Kabul and river Khayali attained high flood level at district Charsaddar and Nowshera. Rising water levels of Swat and Kabul rivers are affecting many areas of Charsadda district, with people living on the river banks evacuating their homes and shifting to safer locations. According to local administration, flood torrent of 15,400 cusecs in river Swat will pass through Nowshera. On the other hand, the Metrological Department has predicted widespread rains in Central and Southern parts of the country during the next 48 hours. In a fresh advisory it said at times heavy and very heavy falls are likely in South Punjab‚ Eastern Balochistan and Upper Sindh during the next two days.Scattered rain-thundershower is also expected elsewhere in the country.

Meanwhile the Met Office has also warned about high risk of flash flooding in the local streams and seasonal nullahs of Dera Ghazi Khan‚ Zhob‚ Sibbi‚ Nasirabad and Kalat divisions during next forty eight hours.

Pakistan has suffered devastating monsoon floods for the last three years, including the worst in its history in 2010 when catastrophic inundations killed almost 1,800 people and affected 21 million.
