Tourism sector suffers heavily due to poor road conditions in KP

PESHAWAR: The tourism sector has been hit hard due to damaged road infrastructure and lack of interest of concerned officials resulting in loss of millions of rupees to the hoteliers and others during the current summer season.
It should be mentioned that Kaghan Valley and Shogran are summer stations and thousands of tourists from the four provinces and foreign countries as well, travel to Naran and Kaghan to enjoy the pleasant weather, amazing beauty of the valleys and magical gorgeousness of Lake Saiful Malook, Dodipat Sar and Lolupat Sar.

The locals and others from across the country hire hotels and shops at the summer stations for business purposes through contract with the owners for which they pay advance amount.
During the ongoing summer season, the monsoon heavy downpour followed by flashfloods disrupted the communication links due to which the tourists had to face problems in reaching the destinations and hundreds of vehicles with hundreds of tourists hailing from Southern Punjab and Sindh had to return from midway due to closure of Balakot-Naran Road.
The hotel contractors and businessmen who had invested millions of rupee to attract the tourists suffered heavy losses.
Talking to INP the hotel owners said at the end of season after paying the employees they were left with nothing in hand.
They criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Department for not paying attention towards the sector and facilitating the foreign and local tourists.
They said this year the number of tourists was much less as compared to last year and it was only and only due to lack luster attention of the departments of tourism and provincial highways.
They said local people also suffered losses as through tourism industry they earn as much in six months to meet the expenses of whole winter season.
They demanded the authorities' concerned and provincial government to take urgent steps for improving the road infrastructure and provide other facilities which are essential for developing the tourism sector. -NNI
